Phone stays unlocked as long as your holding it

According to a new report from Android Police, it seems that if you have a Android phone that is running Android 5.0(lollipop) your phone may soon be able to stay unlocked while you are holding it. But how does this work? Well the way that this works is that your device has a specific component called the accelerometer, which detects motion in the device. So using some of that Google magic, they have figured out a way to configure the accelerometer so that when the feature is turned on, it can tell when you are holding your phone, so that when your phone goes to sleep it doesn't lock itself.

This seems like amazing effort by Google to help prevent phone theft and everything, but it's not like it is a revolutionary step into the future. Just imagine that you and your friend are walking together and your using your phone, if he takes your phone out of your hand your phone is not going to lock itself. It can't tell the difference between you and your friend because both of you guys were holding the device. But on the other hand if you happen to leave your phone on your desk at work or school and your phone goes to sleep then it will lock itself. This is definitely a step in the right direction for Google in the war against phone theft. Maybe when the feature of unlocking your phone with your android watch releases, then this will be a different conversation.
